The Story
There andback again.
Robin Rouquart, founder and CEO, grew up in Ruiselede in West Flanders. His first money came from security cameras bought cheaply in China and resold in Belgium; then work as a waiter, a call centre, and Maison Willem Tell, which he took on and helped build into a successful B&B.
In 2018 he left for the United States with money borrowed against the family home. What followed were two failed startups, two generations of cosmetics that did not make it, and a pivot in the middle of the Covid crisis that saved the company. Today The Mazi Group stands for five businesses with their own production in the United States.
Belgian production is the next step. The full timeline is below; further down you will find the stories behind each chapter.

Robin Rouquart speaks to founders, operators and industry audiences about taking a company into other countries, and about the routes a product takes to reach a customer. Retail, pharmacies, distributors, e-commerce and kiosks are all answers to the same question. What you sell is one part of it. How it gets there is the other.
He talks openly about the parts most keynotes leave out. Two failed startups, a first cosmetics line filled by hand at a kitchen table, thirty square metres, and the order that arrived at the worst possible moment. Each time the company kept going by doing what the business needed, not what he would rather have done.
He accepts only a handful of engagements a year, so tell us the audience and the date and you will get a straight answer either way.
